Sales-Qualified Lead

Sales-Qualified Leads are crucial because they represent a higher likelihood of converting into paying customers. The process involves identifying leads that have demonstrated an intent to purchase and possess the necessary budget and decision-making authority, ensuring that the sales team's efforts are focused on those most likely to close deals.

In practice, Sales-Qualified Leads go through several stages, from initial contact to a more detailed evaluation of their needs. This process helps ensure that when a salesperson reaches out, they have enough information to provide relevant and personalized solutions, increasing the chances of a successful sale.

An SQL has typically passed a qualification framework such as BANT or MEDDIC and been accepted by sales as worth active pursuit, which distinguishes it from a marketing-qualified lead that has only shown interest. The handoff is where value leaks: if the qualification context and next step do not follow the lead into the CRM, the rep restarts from scratch. Automating that handoff, with a human approving the record changes, keeps the SQL from going cold.
